There’s nothing that beats the excitement and giddiness that comes with the holiday season. With December just around the corner, many of us can’t wait to speed up and get to the time when we can have snow in the background and Christmas trees indoors.
This is the season to be jolly! It sure is; however, the one thing that sends a chill down the spines of moms all over the world is the mess that comes both before and after the holiday seasons. What’s more, before the season truly starts, everyone’s too excited to bother with the cleaning. And once the season is over, everyone’s too tired to do it. This leaves moms overwhelmed and exhausted.
However, the holiday season cleaning can be made a lot easier with these accessible practices. Read on to learn how to make the most out of this time of the year with a clean house.
When we prioritize, we mean it. If you don’t go through the cleaning systematically and organized manner, you are bound to lose your mind over the never-ending work. The holiday cleaning list is endless, and you need to figure out what requires your attention the most. The easiest way to go about it is by jotting it down somewhere.
Make a coherent list and segment the chores under different headings. The to-do list will add structure to your process, and you can be sure that you don’t miss anything out. Plumbing needs for every room of the house need to be written under Plumbing and so on.
Even if this might not seem like the greatest of advice out there, it is crucial for your sanity, and you must do it if you wish to get things done around the house. A lot of times, major, more significant tasks require a lot of elements to come into play. This doesn’t mean that you should put off all the smaller jobs as well. Start small and take it slow.
Start with the most straightforward jobs. Grab a cleaning basket and start putting the clutter away. Once you have a clutter-free zone, your mind and body will be much more organized to work on the rest. Feel free to give away what you don’t need; this way, you can help someone out there through charity and clean as well.
Dusting is one of the most straightforward and most crucial parts of any cleaning job. The trick is to grab a piece of clothing and wipe every possible surface of your home that has dust on it. If you use a microfiber cloth, you will have lesser chances of allergens in the air and can avoid having people sneezing here and there.
If your house has high exposure to dust, take a moist cloth and tie it to the ends of your brooms and mops. This will result in the dirt sticking to the fabric without any of it getting away. Everything needs to be dusted, from the fans, doors, and light fixtures to the blinds, doorknobs, and picture frames.
Once you are genuinely in the cleaning zone, you might get tempted to bring in the big guns and use chemicals. Don’t do it! It is widespread for different fatal results and catastrophizes once people carry out DIY cleaning sessions. With the holidays right around the corner, you need to stay away from chemicals such as bleach and ammonia can release tons of deadly toxins into the comfort of your home.
If there is an extreme need for chemical usage, make sure you only use one at a time. It is also in your best interests to use gloves and masks while using any chemicals.
Holidays mean you will be welcoming tons of loved ones, family, friends, and relatives into your home. You might even have some staying with you. Even if you don’t, always be prepared. The best holiday cleaning practice too deep cleanse your bedrooms and bathrooms. Even your ones!
Go through your washrooms and clean every nook and cranny. From replacing the toilet paper roll to cleaning out your medicine cabinet, nothing is too much! Straighten up the beds, make sure there are enough pillows and covers, and get extra clutter out! You can either donate the items or store them away in your basement for the time being.
Christmas often brings up memories of roast beef, stuffed turkey, cranberry sauces, and baked goods. With so much food revolving around the holiday season, you need to ensure that your kitchen is in good shape. Deep cleaning the kitchen involves a wide range of tasks. Start by cleaning out your grates, stovetop, oven, or other such cooking surfaces.
You also need to clean out your fridge, make sure there’s room for leftovers and wipe down all your appliances! (There’s nothing worse than greasy refrigerator handles!) Lastly, clean out your cabinets, mop the floors, remove the cobwebs and take you to recycle bin to the facilities.
Last but not least, there is upholstery and carpet cleaning. With your family lounging on sofas and recliners, they may have gotten out of shape and stained as well. Tend to these to avoid any embarrassing looks during the holidays.
Always test out the cleaning material on a corner of your carpet and upholstery to ensure that it suits the texture. (We’ve seen far too many cases of ruined carpets and rugs!) Usually, a mixture of dish soap, hydrogen peroxide, and water would do for carpet cleaning.
